Backyard Birds

For Christmas I got a bird feeder. I love it. What middle-aged male photographer wouldn’t? It’s great for attracting birds and bringing them in close to photograph. I am continually amazed at all the different species of birds that live in our neighborhood. You think you’ve seen them all, then a new one comes along. Of course, we have our regulars, a dramatic pair of cardinals, a couple of noisy blue-jays, several species of woodpeckers, and the ever-present White-breasted Nuthatches. One of the friendlier species, the Nuthatches like posing at the feeder. Here are a few images I made over the weekend. They were captured at different times of the day and the change in lighting really effected the coloring. The second photograph was taken in the late afternoon which helped bring out richer tones.
