Here are images I captured of two fascinating doorway we encounter during our Colorado trip.
The first looks into an abandoned one room schoolhouse, named the Star School. Built in 1898, the school was founded by a small group of homesteaders and constructed of foundation stone taken from a dismantled fort. It served until 1957. The local community is now trying to raise money to restore the building and the historic site.

The view, looking from the kitchen onto a small enclosed yard, captures the spirit from times past. The fort was abandoned in 1849, when a great cholera epidemic struck the plains Indians, and then burned by the proprietor in 1852. The fort that stands today is a reconstruction built in 1976 based on archaeological excavations, paintings, sketches and diaries.
