Great Room – NIKON D90/16.0-85.0 mm f/3.5-5.6 – 16 mm, f/11@1/3, ISO 200
Last Friday I had the day off so I rose early and went to Lake Okmulgee before sunrise. During the golden hour I photographed the lake along Black Jack cove and then went on to see what else I could find. It was my first trip to the park. Down the road, in the Red Oak campground, I found this incredible pavilion made of rock and timber. They don’t make them like this anymore. To create this image I shot multiple exposures and employed my trusty HDR software, Photomatic Pro, when I got home to bring out the colors and textures. If you are interested in seeing a few more photographs that I took of the pavilion, there is a link to my Flickr photostream at the bottom of this page.

27 Apr 2011Very interesting and beautiful. How far and in what direction is this park from Tulsa? It looks huge and is it used by residents?

28 Apr 2011Thank you. Lake Okmulgee is about 50 minutes south of Tulsa and a little west. Not a bad drive in the early morning hours when there is no traffic. The pavilion is in a state park and probably operates on a first come basis unless you have it reserved. Most of the people in the park are vehicle campers so I suppose they use it most. This is the third state park I’ve visited for photography. Lake Okmulgee has been one of the most beautiful (that’s close) so I may have to go back.
