Portraits of a Bride

Last December we went to a family wedding. It was quite fun and I enjoyed the chance to shoot something new. It was definitely different from the landscapes and birds usually attempt. Fortunately I was not the official photographer. I was just doing it for fun and at the request and blessing of the bride’s parents. If I captured a few good ones – great, if not, no huge loss. Couldn’t have asked for more except for maybe some fast glass and a flash.

Since I’m not a wedding photographer, or a properly equipped one, I had to come up with a game plan that would improve my chances of coming home with at least a few good photographs. First, I decided I would focus on the bride. No need to worry about the rest of the group. They were covered, although I did sneak in a few. Second, I went with a long zoom. This enabled me to keep my distance and still capture her face. Besides, I like close-ups. Lastly, I took a lot of pictures. The more images I took, the more chances I would have of coming home with a keeper.
