I had intended to post more pictures of the house this week but it rained over the weekend so I wasn’t able to take any new ones. Instead, here is a picture of my sweetheart’s violin from my photography group’s weekend assignment. Beginning Friday evening at 7 o’clock, we were given 24 hours to create images for eight different categories. Music was one of the catagories and this was my entry.
Since I don’t have a studio or any lighting equipment I had to use what I had on hand. The backdrop was a black dress and the key light a halogen shop light mounted on a step ladder. The sheet music acted as a reflector. My goal was to light the side of the violin to accentuate the vertical motif in the wood. I also experimented with using the on-camera flash as a fill light but found it wasn’t necessary. The focus point is on the bridge near the oval hole and the aperture was set at the widest possible opening to achieve a narrow depth of field.
