Wedding Photography

I preparation for photographing my sister’s wedding in August I enrolled in a wedding photography class sponsored by Mpix. It was great fun and very enlightening. The most thrilling part was working in a fast paced environment. My usual landscape photography is quite slow by comparison. There’s no time to think about your camera or its settings when the bride is on the move. You have to know your equipment and respond instinctively. No doubt that is where experience helps.

The class took place in a large warehouse studio set up for a mock wedding. Real weddings have been held there as well. The venue included a reception area, changing rooms for the wedding party – I stood in as the only groomsman since I came straight from work already dressed in a coat and tie, a processional aisle with seating and a reception table. It was all very creatively done on a very small budget.

I wanted to extend a special thanks to my teacher, Wendi Riggens, whose instruction went far beyond  my expectations and the woman who put it all together, Liz Huckleby, and who also played the part of the bride. I won two door prizes, a 6 month trail from Studio Cloud and a free crocheted hat from Crochet Creations. Needless to say I came away from the class as a better photographer and with some cool stuff to boot.

Here are just a few of my images. You can see more on my new website hosted by SmugMug – photitect.smugmug.com – check it out and let me know what you think of it. I’m still customizing the layout, within my abilities, so stay tuned for more updates.

  1. Fantastic images. I’m also ready to take your class on Smugmug Pro page customization!

  2. Hopefully I can remember what I did. The CSS stuff is crazy.

  3. I thought the pictures were very enlighting with todays dress. Tatoo’s, tennis shoes, and flip flops. I don’t think you will find these trends at your sister’s wedding. Mom Your observation is very good.
